I wasn’t planning on bringing everything, but once I did decide to hire movers, almost all of my stuff was under the minimum weight anyways, so it worked out for me. Initially, I was planning to bring the major, expensive-to-replace stuff, and then slowly piece an apartment together, but really lucked out with things. I ALSO decided to go the roommate route my first year out here, because then there wouldn’t need to be as much to replace. It’s really worked out. I’d be happy to give you any additional information you wanted.

Overall, moving sucked… it was expensive, stressful, I went a week without my stuff, and a week and a half without my car… but it was totally worth it once I got settled in. I have friends who have moved all their belongings, and friends who have brought nothing. Everyone has survived, in either situation. I say at least bring the stuff that is the most important to you. Life is full of memories, and certain things just have to be brought along for the ride!

The main thing I wonder about is how you decided to bring your things with you. How you would make the decisions about what to bring with you and what to leave behind if ever you made such a long-distance move like that again?
